We boast a menu that has won multiple OpenTable awards, including Diner's Choice and Top 100 Fit For Foodies in the nation, as well as a stellar full bar with craft cocktails and local beers. As if all that weren't enough, our staff is, in a word, unforgettable.
Which, incidentally, will be the same word your guests will use to describe your party for years to come.
With a capacity of 100, this “sea of pool tables” inspires the pool shark in all of us. The Main Room is ideal for pool tournaments and parties from 50-80 guests.
Some or all of the pool tables in the main room can be covered with casino tables, ping pong tables or even covered and draped for use as classroom tables and/or dining tables. Any coverings can be removed after dinner or your meeting to provide entertainment for your group.

This cozy, semi-private room is ideal for groups from 15 to 45 guests. With two pool tables, two dartboards and options for ping pong or casino gaming, there is plenty to keep your guests entertained.
When walking into Uptown Billiards, our 120-year old bar is the first thing you’ll see. The hardwood entry bridges the Main Room to the Parlor and Dining rooms.
Not only does this bar area serve as a great reception area, but it is a great place to set up bands and DJs for dancing on the hardwoods.
Our cozy and comfortable Dining Room seats up to 35 people for meals, “think tanks” or meetings. Against the gold curtains on the back wall is a hidden screen that can be pulled down for digital presentations.
PROJECTOR: We have two plug-and-play Epson projectors which you are welcome to use at no extra charge. They are 1500 lumen (bright) XVGA (just like your computer screen) models which should take no longer than 5 minutes to set up. We have in-wall connections for easy access to both audio and video output.
PROJECTION SCREENS: This projectors are mounted ceilings in the Main Room and in the Dining Room, and project onto 8' x 6' screens. We also have a self-standing 3' x 5' portable screen which can be set up in other areas.
MICROPHONE & P.A. SYSTEM: Also at your disposal is a hand-held, concert-quality wireless microphone which broadcasts through our 22-speaker music sound system.
TELEVISION: Uptown Billiards Club has the capability to broadcast television into all rooms of the Club. Some advance planning is required for us to bring television broadcasts to areas not serviced by our projectors (above).
PARLOR GAMES: Eight pool tables await you in the Main Room; two in the Parlor Room. Also, two dart boards are hidden behind cabinets in the Parlor Room. The ping pong tables are set-up only upon special request.
Blackjack: We have four blackjack tables which accommodate seven guests each. Blackjack is a very simple game, the basics of which can be learned in minutes.
Craps: We have two craps tables, one which entertains 14 and another for eight. Craps is a more complex game, but we start every casino party with craps lessons for the guests. Craps will bring even the most subdued guests to cheering, yelling and clapping! Requires a pool table for set-up.
Roulette: The good news is that Roulette is the simplest of games and will entertain 6 guests at a time. The roulette table is usually the quietest of tables, however, because of its simplicity. This, also is set-up directly on a pool table.
Poker: All the craze! For Whole Club parties, we can set-up two poker tables which accommodate 7 players each.
We stick to our core strengths, but we are happy to arrange contract entertainment for you. Over the years we've seen our share of hits and flops and are happy to work with you to locate and accommodate the best bands, DJ's, Karaoke, Magicians, Card Trick Performers, etc.
Because singing and dancing is not something we do for a living, we choose not to "mark up" or "take a cut" on these items. Let us know what ideas you have and we'll help you arrange for the talent. You can contract with and pay the talent directly or through us.
Not every party needs or should be interrupted by "structure." On the other hand, sometimes a little competition and cooperation, even if it's great fun, can help everyone involved to be more productive at work.
At Uptown Billiards, we've devised a hysterical "Triathalon" of pool, darts, and ping-pong where teams have to strategize how to best assign duos to different games played over four to six rounds - all culminating in an All-Star round at the end. The rules of all the games are simplified so that skill won't hold the event up (it can take a bad pool player an hour to hit all their solids or stripes in). We'll provide the scoresheets, assign teams randomly or politically (your choice), and even emcee the action. This activity is reserved for Whole Club parties, as it requires the use of both the Main and Parlor Rooms.
Receptions: An elegant place that you can be proud of, food that your guests will remember forever and an energy fun enough to keep all your guests mingling for hours, Uptown Billiards is a FANTASTIC place to host your wedding reception.
Rehearsal Dinners: All of your friends and family just flew to town and you're supposed to ignore 3/4 of them two nights before you get married? No way! Have an elegant and world-class dinner with your wedding party early but invite all your friends to join you in the Parlor Room after dinner. Grandma's happy hanging with your parents in the dining room because she can see you with your friends in the Parlor, Mom's happy because you didn't "eat and run" and your friends are happy because after flying 3000 miles they get to buy you your last shot of premarital tequila.
UPTOWN AS A FUND-RAISING VENUE: If you would like to use our facilities to raise funds or awareness for your group, we would like to hear about it. We cannot accommodate all requests, but we will do our best to find ways of leveraging our resources to help you.
AUCTION DONATIONS: Uptown Billiards has the ability to make donations of several different types to auctions. Our willingness to contribute to your cause will depend upon who the beneficiary is, but don't be afraid to ask.
NON-PROFIT STAFF/VOLUNTEER/PATIENT EVENTS: Whether you are under-appreciated educators, counselors at a shelter or volunteers from a big fundraising event, you deserve to celebrate. As you've proven, money isn't everything - and it isn't to us either. Our ability to host an event with/for you will be entirely dependent upon your flexibility. Call us in the earliest moments of planning an event - especially before you've got times and dates in mind. Don't worry about being perfectly prepared, just email and say, "We've got 40 volunteers who do XYZ for the community and I'm looking for a way to say 'thanks.'" With that information we can look at our calendars and find a way to make things work. Please tell us about your organization in your request.
With enough notice, we can provide the best banquet food your group will ever eat for 200pp, twice a day. That said, out kitchen is very very small and there are some limitations to some of what we can do...
PRIVATE AND CORPORATE DINING: With Portland's best food, our dining room remodel behind us, extraordinary staff and prices 20% under our competition, Uptown Billiards can't be beat for hosting a dinner party. We require a party greater than 16 to close off the dining room (or we will charge a small room fee) for truly "Private Dining." We can pull together a single table of up to 12 people without closing the dining room for a "dinner party" or "corporate dinner."
BUFFETS: There are no limitations to serving food buffet-style. Buffets not only make everything possible, but they tend to lend themselves beautifully to the "thank-God-we're-not-stuck-in-a banquet-room atmosphere of the Club.
FAMILY-STYLE DINNERS: With all the intimacy of sit-down dining yet an "ice-breaker" like nothing else, family-style dining creates a boisterous energy in the room, opening the flow of ideas and sharing of experiences that formal dining can sometimes stifle. Side dishes and main courses alike will arive on platters. The food is equally fantastic, just more casually (and interactively) served.
WINE DINNERS: Some wine dinners are very educational, some are just lots of fun. If you want to put together a "wine-and-dine" dinner for some special guests, we will fashion a culinary dream tailored to your group.
Our food is fresh, seasonal, made from absolute scratch wherever possible, and is incomparably delicious.
Our chef and event coordinator collaborate on each menu on a case-by-case basis. Given the availability and pricing of fresh ingredients during different times of the year, they will help you to make the most of your budget and their ultimate goal will always be the satisfaction of your guests. Never in our history - EVER- has their been a neighborhood complaint let alone a DUI after an evening at UBC. We aren't quick to cut people off, we're just very professional. We take alcohol-related responsibilities very seriously and you should rest assured that this is our job, not yours. As unpopular as the "perfect attendance" award in high school, Uptown has actually received the OLCC's statewide "Good Neighbor Award" on several occasions.
NO-HOST BAR: A no-host bar means that your guests are responsible for buying their own drinks.
OPEN BAR: This is where you're picking up the drink tab. If it help you in some way, we can put some limits on what your guests are allowed to order.
SCRIP BAR: You can choose how many drinks you'd like to buy your guests, whether it's one or two or more. Further, you can limit their choices to different cost-levels of beverages if you choose.
TIMED BAR: Buy your guests drinks for the first hour or two of your event.
Where are you? Uptown Billiards is located on trendy NW 23rd Avenue, just 1/2 block off of Burnside. We're on the second floor of our building. Unfortunately, because we are in a historic building, we do not possess an elevator.
What's your capacity? 240 total, but we have rooms suitable for different sized groups.
What does it cost to throw a party? The food and beverage prices stay the same throughout the year but our F&B minimums will change seasonally. Unlike a venue which offers a "free" space but charges you $35 for a hunk of pre-cooked chicken and a wilting salad, we choose to charge a fair price for your menu separately from a "room fee." Our room fees will depend upon the time, day, month or season of your party.
Is there parking? We have a free 14-space lot adjacent to our building and a 70-space lot we can rent exclusively for your guests within a block. Truth be told, however, we're open after most of the retail shops are closed, so there is generally lots of on-street parking.
Can I bring my own...? Unless it is a cake, probably not. For legal, licensing and insurance reasons, we typically provide all the food and beverage.
Must all guests be 21 years old? Unless we write to the OLCC (liquor authorities) and get special permission in advance, everyone must be 21 or older.
Can I get some help? Absolutely. You're probably better at making shoes, silicone chips or buildings than we'll ever be; we're probably better at stretching your entertainment budget than you'll ever be. Tell us about the party you're dreaming of, tell us your budget, and let us help you get the most for your money - it is in everyone's best interest.
What if I just show up with a bunch of people? Please don't -- because we will never take on business we can't be proud of. When groups show up unexpectedly, we must maintain our service standards by putting "expected" customers first and treating unexpected groups as "less important" (ouch, I know). Put yourself in someone else's shoes: if you were hosting the party you're planning today and 50 unexpected guests showed up to bog down the servers, the bar and the kitchen, would you be happy? When forced, we will make tough choices in tough situations... and we'll always choose our reputation over quick cash.
Can I get a discount? If you are involved with a non-profit group, we may be willing to take a loss to help you raise funds or awareness. If your under-funded public service organization cannot afford a staff party at all, we may find a way to reward your contributions to our community. (In either case, please click the non-profit link above). If you or your organization is part of the for-profit community on the other hand, please know that we reserve our charity for those who truly need it.
Minimums: Whether during the holidays, during the daytime or during any party which will displace a large number of paying customers, we will ask that you meet a "Food and Beverage" minimum.
Deposits: In order to reserve the space for your event, you will need to make a deposit in the amount of the room fee. During the holidays, you will also be required to pay the food, beverage and gratuity total at least two weeks before your event. All final payments, including last-minute adjustments or gratuities or contract entertainment fees are due at the end of the event unless previously agreed to by our Event Coordinator.
Force Majeur: If your party is cancelled by a force majeur ("act of God"), such as an ice storm or earthquake, any deposits you have paid will be applicable to any future party during the following 11 months.
Cancellations: If your party is cancelled for any reason other than the "naturally uncontrollable," we will address the issue on a case-by-case basis. As a rule, if we are able to re-book the space for the same rental fee and food and beverage minimum, we'll gladly return deposits.
Gratuities: There is an industry-standard 20% service fee automatically charged to your food and beverage total.
